Meet Kimberley, our TEDx 2016 chairwoman, travel lover and charismatic redhead. Coincidentally, Kimberley was one of the very first people who I’ve met in correlation with TEDxBreda. Let’s get some insight into her views on TED, life and gamification in the first “TEDx Players” interview.

Hi Kimberley – Tell us a little bit about yourself, your background, your passions and ambitions.

Kimberley Borm, 26 years old. Teacher Leisure management and entrepreneurship on Helicon MBO Tilburg. My passion is skiing. I travel as much as possible because there are so many beautiful places on the earth.

When did you first heard of TED talks and is there one talk that stuck with you throughout the years?

I think I first saw a TED talk on secondary school. The most memorable talk for me is the talk from a professor who shows his robot bird. The electric animals flies above the audience, beautiful.

Is there a particular TED topic you’re currently interested in?

I like almost everything. So there is no special topic.

Why drove you to become part of the TEDxBreda team and eventually, the chairwoman?

To organize things with people you hardly know is so interesting. For my profession is it also good to keep on organizing events. I can learn a lot from my team members and it is fun! TEDx is composed of various groups, collaborating within the same fireframe.

What group are you mainly part of and what does that involve?

I am part of the production group. We are responsible for the organization of the main event. Besides my role within the production team is my other role chairwoman in the “stuurgroep”.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I like to ski and Saturdays I try to babysit to a boy with down syndrome. As a guide with people with a mental disability going on holiday is also one of my favorite things to do.

What do you enjoy the most out of being part of the team?

Working together and making new friends.

Tell us a bit about TEDx as a group – What makes a happy group, what bonds you all together?

We like to work together but also fun is very important so we eat often together. We are all ambitious to realize an inspiring event.

How would you describe the rewards of the activities that we do?

Meet people who are also interested in the things that are going on in the world.

What are the three things that you would bring with you if you were strangled on a deserted island?

Ice, fruit and a penknife.

Gamification – this year’s theme: How did games or playfulness influence you? What’s your view on the topic?

I am really looking forward to an inspiring event with a wink. We use a lot of games in our daily life and we discover a lot of things which are quite fun. I hope we can give a stage to people who are both interesting and fun.

Do you apply gamification techniques in your day to day life?

I use games and storytelling in my lessons.

What is your favorite game (boardgame, video game, hunger game, mind game)?

30 seconds.

Closing thoughts on the TEDx Breda 2016 edition?

I am looking forward to meet people who are willing to think about how we can become a real part of the Breda society and grow in size and quantity.
